About the Bay State Basenji Club

Purpose

The Bay State Basenji Club serves basenjis and their folks in the New England states and is especially active in basenji health education and fundraising for basenji health research.

Our basenjis are family members and our pets.  Many of our basenjis are active in dog sports, including conformation showing, obedience and lure coursing.  Some do therapy work in nursing homes and hospitals.  Bay State Basenji Club members cooperate together to build our understanding of the breed and its issues.  There is a large repository of experience and knowledge in the Club.

The Bay State Basenji Club offers a network of resources.  We are affiliated with both the Basenji Club of America and the American Kennel Club.

If you have a question about the breed, if you are looking for good information or good ideas, there are members who will gladly assist you.

The members govern the Bay State Basenji Club, Inc.  We encourage active participation in the business of the Club. The vitality and success of the Club flows from the energy and efforts of active members.

Membership is open to everyone
who shares the Club’s purpose:

• to promote quality in the breeding of pure bred basenjis and to do all possible to bring their natural qualities to perfection;

• to accept the Standard of the breed as approved by the American Kennel Club as the only Standard of excellence by which basenjis shall be judged;

•  to do all in its power to protect and advance the interests of the breed and to encourage sportsmanlike competition at dog shows, lure coursing events, obedience trials and agility trials;

•   to conduct sanctioned matches, specialty shows, lure coursing events, obedience trials and agility trials under the rules of the American Kennel Club;

•  to strive in all its activities to set a good example in the care of basenjis and to create and maintain a good reputation for the breed through its members' and their dogs' behavior;

•  and to encourage responsible and caring dog ownership, dog health care and safety, and the prevention of abuse through breeder and owner education and rescue intervention.

The Bay State Basenji Club is affiliated with the American Kennel Club and our parent organization, the Basenji Club Of America. Both provide access to a wealth of useful resources.
